Our free-tier offering is designed for users to test remote-backups.com if they are evaluating a offsite backup solution.
The free-tier comes with some limitations that are worth noting. In order to provide a seamless experience to paying customers we have implemented a number of safeguards and checks. Also- in order to ensure that free-tier users actually make use of their datastores we have some checks in place to ensure that the datastore is still used.
Usage Checks
We poll the datastore in order to ensure that new backups are written. If the datastore does not see any new backups for 14 days we mark the datastore for deletion and after 3 days it will be removed if no new backups appear. This is done to ensure that people who disconnect their datastore and don’t use it anymore don’t take up space in the free-tier quota so other people can test it out. Please closely monitor your E-Mails for failed backup jobs and warning notifications in order to avoid service disruption.
Bandwidth Limitations
A 100 mbit/s bandwidth limitation is imposed on the ingress-proxy for free-tier datastores in order to ensure that enough bandwidth is available for paying customers and internal traffic. This is lifted to 500 mbit/s for paid datastores and can be additionally requested to be higher if the bandwidth is required.
